Jean's Posts

The potential Northern Gateway pipeline is a major concern for many of the people that I speak with.

Last month I sent out a number of mailings with information about oil spills and the Northen Gateway Pipeline. I have attached them to this post in case you would like to take a look at some of the information you may not have received.

My BC colleagues and I have been working hard to continually raise the issue in Parliament and with the Prime Minister.

Jean Crowder's Article on Elder Abuse for the Cowichan Valley Citizen August, 2012

Each month my office identifies trends in the emails, letters and phone calls coming in to my office.
This month, the trending topic is elder abuse, with many constituents urging me to help raise awareness of the issue and look for opportunities to reduce its incidence.

There are more than five million Canadians over the age of 65.

With many Canadian’s upset about the cuts in the government’s spring budget and the lack of public consultation and debate, the NDP’s goal for the upcoming pre-budget consultations is to ensure that the Finance Committee hears from Canadians from coast to coast to coast about what matters to them and where they want our country to be headed.

NDP Press Release

MPs to attend Enbridge pipeline hearing and tour proposed oil tanker route

VANCOUVER — New Democrat MPs from British Columbia were joined by NDP Deputy Leader and Environment Critic Megan Leslie (Halifax) as they kicked off a tour of BC focussed on environmental issues.

Opposing the Northern Gateway Project

As your MP, I am opposing the Northern Gateway proposal to build a pipeline from Alberta’s oilsands to BC’s north coast. I want to tell you why.

This pipeline would cross some 1,000 rivers and streams, including sensitive salmon spawning habitat. Even small leaks could be devastating—and could go undetected for long stretches in this rugged terrain.

This pipeline would move some 525,000 barrels of raw bitumen to the coast each day. From there, it would be loaded onto supertankers for shipment overseas.
